I built my first bike in 2012, after trying a handbike which was an "all-in-one" bike, i.e you have to transfer from your wheelchair to the bike. Which is a bit tricky sometimes, and secondly when you get somewhere with your bike, you are stuck in it, the bike is so large that you don´t fit in anywhere with it.
So I started looking at bikes that can be attached to the wheelchair. Easy to attach, easy to release from the wheelchair when you get to wherever you were going. They were "pricy" to say the least, so I decided to build my own.
The first handbike I tried was not with electric power assist, which was quite hard for me, so I a bike with an electric hub motor and pedelec assist was a must have for me.
I have been using my handbike for a couple of years now. I have been to Norway with it, I have been to Sweden and a number of places in Finland where I live. It´s a convienient way of getting around and also gives you great exercise.
